The government and the Libyan Red Crescent inaugurate a coordination center and new operations rooms to improve the country’s response to emergencies and disasters

Libyan Prime Minister Osama Hamad inaugurated the new Humanitarian Command Center and Central Operations Rooms of the Libyan Red Crescent in Benghazi on Thursday, in an initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s capacity to respond to emergencies, crises and disasters.
The ceremony was attended by several members of the House of Representatives, ministers, the Secretary-General of the Cabinet, and senior officials from security agencies and the armed forces. Members and volunteers of the Libyan Red Crescent also attended, along with representatives of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Arab and international humanitarian organizations.
Ambassadors, consuls and representatives of various regional and international organizations were also present, underscoring the institutional and international cooperation behind the new center.
A center to improve emergency response
The Secretary-General of the Libyan Red Crescent said during the inauguration that the launch of the Humanitarian Command Center and the new operations rooms forms part of the organization’s efforts to modernize and strengthen its operational capabilities.
The aim is to improve coordination and accelerate emergency response, allowing for more efficient management of resources and greater operational capacity across the country.
The new facility is expected to serve as a coordination hub for humanitarian operations, particularly in the event of natural disasters, large-scale emergencies and other situations requiring the rapid mobilization of teams and resources.
Strengthening international cooperation
During the ceremony, the government and the Libyan Red Crescent emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with international and regional humanitarian organizations and partners.
Libyan authorities believe that closer cooperation will help improve the capabilities of national institutions and enable a more coordinated response to future crises. The goal is to ensure that Libyan agencies can act more quickly and effectively when emergencies affect the population.
The initiative is also part of Libya’s efforts to strengthen its participation in regional and international humanitarian networks and consolidate its position as an active partner in humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
Greater capacity to face crises
The inauguration represents another step in strengthening Libya’s humanitarian infrastructure. The Libyan Red Crescent plays an important role in assisting the population during emergencies and mobilizing volunteers and response teams on the ground.
The new facilities are intended to improve coordination among government agencies, humanitarian organizations and international partners, particularly when a rapid response is critical.
