Europe warns Trump not to strike a deal with Putin without involving Ukraine

Ahead of a potential direct negotiation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, scheduled for this Friday in Alaska, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and key European allies have called for a «real, verifiable, and guaranteed» ceasefire for Kyiv.
Speaking in Berlin after a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Zelensky insisted that “there can be no peace unless Ukrainian sovereignty is respected and the country’s security ensured.” His message was echoed by Brussels, London, and NATO, who are increasingly concerned about a possible Trump-Putin deal that sidelines Ukraine.
European leaders fear that Trump already playing a prominent diplomatic role as part of his U.S. election campaign may pressure Zelensky into accepting an immediate ceasefire, even if it means freezing the conflict without resolving the status of Russian-occupied territories. “Peace cannot be built without Kyiv,” said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels.
According to diplomatic sources, the EU has launched a new round of talks to strengthen support for Ukraine and prevent a settlement imposed by Washington and Moscow. Chancellor Merz also stressed that “any negotiated solution must be based on international law and respect for Ukraine’s territorial integrity,” echoing the position of the European Council last week.
With only two days to go before the Trump-Putin meeting, international tensions are mounting. While Washington remains silent about the agenda, concern is growing in Kyiv and European capitals over the prospect of a peace agreement dictated rather than agreed.
