The British government, led by new Foreign Secretary David Lammy, announced on Friday that it will join the latest round of sanctions introduced by the European Union against Russian oil. The measures include import restrictions and asset freezes targeting individuals and entities directly involved in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Among the sanctioned entities is a Russian military intelligence unit accused of providing logistical and strategic support for airstrikes against civilian areas, including the attack on the Mariupol theatre where hundreds of people were sheltering.

“These sanctions send a clear message: the United Kingdom will not tolerate barbaric acts or war crimes,” Lammy stated, highlighting the close coordination with EU partners to maintain a united front against Moscow.

The announcement follows a high-level meeting between UK and EU officials in Brussels, where they discussed strengthening financial and legal tools to curtail funding for Russia’s military operations.
