In an act of historical recognition and Pan-African solidarity, the President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Omar Sisoko Imbalo, visited the sanctuary of Sheikh Al-Mujahid Omar Al-Mukhtar in Benghazi. Accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of Libya, Dr. Abdel-Hadi Al-Haweej, the visit aimed to pay tribute to one of the most emblematic figures of the Libyan resistance against the Italian occupation.

During his visit, President Imbalo expressed his admiration for Omar Al-Mukhtar’s struggle, highlighting his crucial role in the history of African resistance. «Today we honor the memory of a man who embodied the fight for his people’s freedom and dignity. His sacrifice and determination remain a source of inspiration for the entire African continent,» the president stated in the official visit journal.
The Omar Al-Mukhtar sanctuary, located in Benghazi, is a symbol of anticolonial resistance and a reminder of the historical struggles that have defined the independence of many African nations. The visit of the Guinean president highlights the importance of preserving the memory of the heroes who fought for the sovereignty and self-determination of their peoples.

In addition to historical recognition, the meeting between the authorities of Guinea-Bissau and Libya served to strengthen diplomatic cooperation between the two nations. Imbalo’s presence in Libya reflects the commitment of African countries to historical memory and the construction of a future based on unity and resistance against oppression.
