Benghazi’s Benina International Airport celebrated the arrival of the first Turkish Airlines flight after years of absence, symbolizing a new chapter in Libya-Turkey relations. The event, organized by the Libyan Government’s Ministry of Civil Aviation, highlighted the strategic and symbolic importance of this return in a country striving to strengthen its infrastructure and reopen to the world.

Authorities and Bilateral Enthusiasm

The ceremony was attended by prominent figures from both countries, including Libya’s Minister of Civil Aviation, Dr. Hisham Bushkiwat, members of Libya’s House of Representatives, and Turkish Airlines representatives led by its General Manager, Bilal Akshi. The Turkish Ambassador to Libya and other diplomatic officials were also present.

Bushkiwat emphasized the significance of this milestone in “facilitating the movement of citizens and strengthening ties between nations.” Bilal Akshi expressed his satisfaction at resuming operations in Benghazi, announcing that the airline will connect the city to over 300 international destinations with an initial schedule of three weekly flights.

A Transforming Libya

The return of Turkish Airlines not only broadens connectivity options for Libyans but also reflects growing international interest in the country’s stabilization and economic development. During their visit, the Turkish delegation toured major construction and development projects in Benghazi, praising the region’s stability and economic dynamism.

The resumption of these flights symbolizes more than just an air connection; it represents a cultural and economic bridge between two historically linked nations, signaling Libya’s commitment to global outreach and strengthening international partnerships.

A Promising Future

Against the backdrop of a Libya seeking to overcome internal challenges and project itself outward, Turkish Airlines’ reactivation in Benghazi is a tangible step toward normalization and growth. This joint effort not only facilitates trade and tourism exchanges but also sends a powerful message of hope and cooperation across the region.
