Today, Wednesday, the Prime Minister of the Government of Libya, Dr. Osama Hamad, inaugurated the First Southern Reconstruction Conference at the Fazan Palace in the city of Sabha, accompanied by prominent national leaders. Among them were the President of the House of Representatives, Counselor Aqila Saleh; the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Marshal Khalifa Haftar; and the Director General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, Engineer Balqasem Khalifa Haftar.
The event, held under the slogan «From Marginalization to Construction», also saw the attendance of the Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Misbah Douma, Chief of General Staff, General Aul Abdul Razzaq Al-Nazouri, Chief of Security Forces, General Khaled Haftar, as well as ministers, government representatives, mayors from southern Libya, and various cultural, social, and political figures from the region.
During his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s strong commitment to the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, announcing continued support and provision of all necessary material and logistical resources to drive development projects in southern Libya. He also praised the House of Representatives and military leadership for their crucial role in advancing reconstruction efforts, fostering development, and strengthening social cohesion, particularly in the city of Merzaq, as the region works towards comprehensive reconciliation.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the martyrs and acknowledged the sacrifices of the heroes of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces and their support forces, who have bravely defended the homeland, contributing to the stability needed for ongoing reconstruction and development.
Dr. Osama Hamad also highlighted that his government has already begun implementing development plans in southern Libya, launching strategic infrastructure projects in the cities and towns of the region. He noted that the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund has played a vital role in transforming previously marginalized areas, promoting progress in regions like Darna and other flood-affected areas. The Prime Minister emphasized the tireless efforts to implement plans that have significantly improved living conditions.
This conference marks an important step in Libya’s development and reconstruction strategy, with a primary focus on transforming the historically neglected south into a hub of growth, stability, and social cohesion.
