The Libyan Prime Minister Meets with Representatives of Belgian Jan De Nul Group

he Libyan Prime Minister, Dr. Osama Hamad, held a meeting at the Cabinet headquarters with representatives of the Belgian Jan De Nul Group, a company specializing in marine projects.

The meeting was attended by Eng. Abul Qasem Khalifa Haftar, General Manager of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, and Dr. Al-Sadiq Khalifa Haftar. The Prime Minister welcomed the attendees, praising the Belgian company’s expertise and excellent reputation in various marine projects. He expressed his appreciation for their contribution to the implementation of major projects in Libya as part of its comprehensive and unprecedented development plan.

During the meeting, the General Manager of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund also welcomed the guests and praised the company’s technical expertise. He expressed hope for their involvement in construction and development projects in Libya. It was agreed to establish a joint technical and engineering committee between the Fund and the company to discuss and clarify the projects to be implemented under the Fund’s strategy and plans. The committee will conduct field visits to various sites.

Key representatives from the Jan De Nul Group attended the meeting, including Mr. Philippe Morbi, Regional Director for Africa and the Middle East, Mr. Dominique Bompart, Regional Director for Africa, and Mr. Stephen Dewalt, Project Manager for Libya, along with other company representatives in the country.

The company presented a detailed visual overview of its activities, projects, and capabilities, highlighting its major contributions worldwide, such as the creation of Hong Kong International Airport, Palm Island in the UAE, the expansion of the Suez Canal and the Panama Canal, the formation of industrial islands, dam construction, beach and port repairs, and marine channel expansions.

The company representatives expressed their satisfaction with the meeting and their admiration for Libya’s ongoing development and construction efforts under the Libyan government and the supervision of the Development and Reconstruction Fund. In this regard, the company presented a technical and engineering proposal for the maintenance and deepening of Derna Port, and affirmed their full readiness and willingness to participate in various projects in their areas of expertise.
