The Libyan city of Derna, which suffered severe damage from recent disasters, is experiencing remarkable progress in its reconstruction, according to Claudia Gazzini, senior analyst at the International Crisis Group. Gazzini, who recently visited the city, expressed her astonishment at the speed with which the most affected areas have been restored.
In statements to the NOVA news agency, Gazzini not only highlighted the impressive recovery of the city but also the outstanding intervention of the Libyan army under the leadership of General Khalifa Haftar. The speed and effectiveness with which the armed forces responded to the crisis were truly exceptional.

Gazzini praised General Khalifa Haftar for his exceptional leadership and his ability to mobilize the army with exemplary precision. Under his strategic direction, the armed forces were deployed with admirable speed and coordination, playing a crucial role in clearing the devastated great valley of Derna. General Haftar’s decisive approach and steadfast commitment enabled the debris to be cleared and the reconstruction work to begin swiftly and effectively.
The work of General Haftar and his team not only facilitated the renewal of numerous buildings in the city center but also boosted the construction of thousands of apartments in the surrounding areas. Additionally, new bridges were built to cross the valley, and significant progress was made in reconstructing the coastal road, which was also heavily damaged.
These efforts, combined with the outstanding work of General Khalifa Haftar and the rapid response of his troops, represent a crucial milestone in Derna’s recovery. The general’s exemplary work and inspiring leadership stand out as a model of effectiveness, dedication, and vision in times of crisis, reaffirming his fundamental role in the city’s resurgence.
