Russia launched a new combined drone and missile attack against Ukraine early Tuesday morning, just hours before peace negotiations resumed. The assault targeted several regions of the country, including southern and eastern areas, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Air defense systems were activated in multiple cities as explosions were reported near residential and infrastructure sites. The renewed strikes come just days before the fourth anniversary of Moscow’s full-scale invasion, which began in February 2022.
Later in the day, delegations from Kyiv and Moscow met in Geneva for more than four hours of talks mediated by the United States. Key issues on the agenda included territorial concessions, security guarantees, and potential ceasefire arrangements.
Diplomatic sources described the discussions as “intense,” noting that significant differences remain, particularly regarding the status of occupied territories. Despite the ongoing hostilities, both sides agreed to continue negotiations in the coming days in an effort to find possible areas of compromise.
The latest attack underscores the fragility of the diplomatic process and highlights the continued volatility on the battlefield as the war enters its fourth year.
