Tuve oportunidades que estaban más allá de mis sueños más salvajes, pero cada puerta que se abría parecía llevarme de vuelta a casa en Liberia
Recuerdo tener tu edad y estar lleno de esperanza y tener buenos planes para mi futuro. Las cosas que quería ver durante esos años no me sucedieron cuando esperaba, pero seguí adelante con esta cosa hermosa que llamamos fe.
La fe me ayudó a aprender a ver las cosas de manera diferente, mejor de lo que eran. En las noches que me acostaba con hambre, cambié mis pensamientos de la frustrante pérdida de esperanza y decidí verlo como mi tiempo de ayuno y oración.
El resultado fue que Dios escuchó mis oraciones y me reunió con mi madre en los Estados Unidos. Durante los años que siguieron, mi fe se fortaleció y las puertas se abrieron para mí.

Estaba listo para volver a casa, pero sabía que no podía volver a casa y no hacer nada. No podía dejar que mi fe se desperdiciara. Entonces, hice espacios para personas como yo que necesitan ver un cambio en Liberia. Con total humildad y voluntad de servir a los liberianos, me convertí en la primera mujer en nuestro país en fundar un partido político, el Movimiento por Una Liberia. En solo unos pocos años, hemos ganado muchos seguidores y tenemos 34 poderosos aspirantes en las elecciones de este año.
Siempre me sorprende lo que ya están haciendo por nuestra gente y espero verlos hacer más una vez elegidos.
También estoy en un estado constante de agradecimiento por poder trabajar de cerca con el exvicepresidente Joseph N. Boakai, un hombre increíble con una visión que mejorará este país. Si me hubieras dicho a mí, la niña asustada que huía de los soldados que torturaban y mataban a la gente, que estaría en compañía de esta grandeza: la Misión de Rescate y los aspirantes al MOL, me hubiera costado creerlo.
No te digo esto para presumir o presumir… Yo no hago eso y te animo a que te mantengas alejado de ese tipo de comportamiento también. Te digo esto para que sepas que no importa lo que veas a tu alrededor, debes tener fe.
Sepa que el poder de rescatar su futuro está en sus manos.

I got opportunities that were beyond my wildest dreams, but every single door that opened seemed to lead me back home to Liberia
I remember being your age and being full of hope and having good plans for my future. The things I wanted to see during those years didn’t happen for me when I expected it to, but I kept pushing through with this beautiful thing we called faith.
Faith helped me learn to see things differently – better than what they were. On the nights I went to bed hungry, I changed my thoughts from the frustrating loss of hope and decided to see it as my fasting and praying time.
The result was God hearing my prayers and reuniting me with my mother in the US. Over the years that followed, my faith got stronger and doors kept opening for me.
I got opportunities that were beyond my wildest dreams, but every single door that opened seemed to lead me back home to Liberia.
I was ready to come home but I knew I couldn’t come home and do nothing. I couldn’t let my faith go to waste. So, I made spaces for people like me that need to see Liberia change. In complete humility and a will to serve Liberians, I became the first woman in our country to found a political party, the Movement for One Liberia. In just a few short years, we’ve gained a strong following and have 34 powerful aspirants in this year’s election.
I’m always amazed at what they’re already doing for our people and look forward to seeing them do more once elected.
I’m also in a constant state of thankfulness to be able to work closely with former Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, an incredible man with a vision that will turn this country around for the better. If you had told me, the scared little girl running from soldiers that tortured and killed people, that I would be in the company of this greatness – the Rescue Mission and the MOL’s aspirants, I might have had a hard time believing it.
I’m not telling you this to boast or brag … I don’t do that and I encourage you to stay away from that type of behavior too. I’m telling you this to let you know that no matter what you see around you, you must have faith.
Know that the power to rescue your future is in your hands.
