Marshal Khalifa Abul Qasim Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, received a delegation of sheikhs, elders, and scholars from the city of Tarhuna at the military compound that bears his name. The meeting aimed to consolidate tribal and social backing for the army at a crucial time for Libya’s stability.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Dr. Assama Hamad, Chief of Staff General Khalid Haftar, and National Security Advisor General Abdulrazaq Al-Nazouri, underscoring its political and institutional significance within the eastern bloc of Libyan power.
During the meeting, the representatives of Tarhuna reaffirmed their full support for the Armed Forces, describing them as “the safety valve of Libya” and praising their role in protecting the country’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The tribal leaders also reiterated their commitment to peace and national stability.

For his part, Marshal Haftar praised the sacrifices made by the people of Tarhuna, recalling that the city “paid a high price for standing with the Army and the battle for dignity.” He emphasized that the Armed Forces “are not the ones to make political decisions,” but assured that they would “always stand by the Libyan people and their choices,” supporting any agreement that fosters national unity.
“The Army will embrace and protect any initiative that unites Libyans,” Haftar stated, while warning that those who oppose the will of the people will find themselves facing the Armed Forces.

The meeting is seen as a symbolic gesture of cohesion between the military leadership and western Libyan tribes, amid ongoing political divisions and international efforts to stabilize the country after years of institutional fragmentation.
