The desert sun was still high above the tarmac at Sabha Airport when the aircraft carrying Field Marshal Khalifa Abu Alqasem Haftar touched down. The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces was received with honors by a high-level delegation, led by Prime Minister Dr. Osama Hamad, the Deputy Prime Minister, cabinet members, as well as the Director of the Libyan Reconstruction and Development Fund, Engineer Belqasem Haftar, alongside senior military and security officials.

The scene, solemn and politically charged, marked the beginning of a day destined to become a milestone for the country’s south. From Sabha, the delegation traveled to the city of El Bendito, where they will formally inaugurate a series of service and development projects aimed at revitalizing a region long sidelined from the national spotlight.

Marshal Haftar’s visit is more than a show of institutional presence—it is a symbolic gesture and a clear sign that Libya’s southern regions, often peripheral in the nation’s political framework, are now returning to the forefront of national priorities. Authorities are betting on a reconstruction strategy that builds not only walls, but bridges between communities.

According to official sources, the projects include refurbished housing units, as well as vital infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, water and electricity networks, and roads. This initiative is part of a national reconciliation and reconstruction plan launched after historic agreements between southern communities were signed last year.

Accompanied by key architects of this regional renewal, Marshal Haftar aims today not just to cut ceremonial ribbons, but to consolidate a narrative of unity, development, and shared sovereignty.
