In a significant move to address pressing economic matters, Libyan Prime Minister Dr. Osama Hamad chaired an extensive meeting at the headquarters of the Central Bank of Libya in Benghazi on November 12. The meeting, attended by high-ranking officials, including the President of the Planning and Finance Committee of the House of Representatives, Mr. Omar Tantoush, and the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Mr. Marai Al-Barasi, focused on several key issues affecting the country’s financial stability and governance.

One of the main points of discussion was the implementation of the 2024 General Budget Law, issued by the House of Representatives. The Prime Minister and his team also addressed a recent ruling by the Benghazi Court of Appeals, which suspended the implementation of Decision No. 828 of 2023, issued by the Al-State Government. This decision raised concerns regarding the Central Bank’s financial management, with the Prime Minister stressing the importance of adhering to the General Budget Law and rejecting any actions that would undermine its implementation.

The meeting also tackled urgent public sector concerns, including the allocation of funds for workers’ salaries, aiming to avoid delays that have been negatively impacting citizens’ lives. Additionally, proposals for the 2025 budget were discussed, reflecting ongoing efforts to address the economic challenges facing Libya.
By the end of the session, the Prime Minister and the assembled officials took decisive actions to ensure the effective enforcement of the 2024 General Budget Law, underlining the government’s commitment to economic stability and the welfare of Libyan citizens.
