Libya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdul Hadi Al-Hawij, has initiated a series of consultations with local representatives and elders of Libyan communities to examine how to effectively implement the social responsibility of foreign oil companies operating in the country. During the meeting, held with the “eyes”a term used to refer to elders and community leaders in Libya various ways were discussed on how these companies can contribute to the welfare of local communities, particularly those near the oil fields of Chispa and Elefante.
Al-Hawij emphasized the importance of these corporations not only benefiting from Libya’s resources but also taking an active role in the social and economic development of the areas where they operate. Among the highlighted proposals, it was stressed that the companies should collaborate in providing essential services such as healthcare and education, as well as creating employment opportunities for qualified residents of the cities near the oil fields.
The minister also noted that such initiatives would not only improve the quality of life for local inhabitants but also help strengthen relationships between the communities and the oil companies, ensuring greater social stability in a key region for oil production in Libya.
With the active participation of the «eyes» and other community representatives, it is hoped that this dialogue with the oil companies will lead to concrete agreements that allow for a more equitable distribution of the benefits generated by the exploitation of the country’s natural resources.
