In a bid to bolster internal security and respond to emerging threats in the country’s most vulnerable regions, Libya’s Cabinet Prime Minister, Dr. Osama Hamad, chaired a high-level security meeting on Thursday at the headquarters of the Internal Security Service in Benghazi. The gathering brought together senior leaders from the security apparatus and armed forces, with a special focus on the critical situation in southern Libya.

Attendees included Abdul Basit Abughris, commander of the General Command of the Armed Forces in the South; Osama Al-Darsi, head of the Internal Security Agency; Minister of Interior General Issam Abu Zariba; Deputy Head of General Intelligence, General Sulaiman Albar; Ministry of Interior spokesman Major Faraj Aqeem, and the spokesman for the Ministry of Local Administration, Mr. Abubakar Al-Zoi.

The meeting focused on assessing on-the-ground security conditions, reviewing ongoing joint operations between the Ministry of Interior, security agencies, and the military, and outlining coordinated plans to combat organized crime, illegal immigration, and smuggling. Strengthening control over roads and border crossings was also emphasized.

Prime Minister Hamad stressed the importance of intensifying efforts with discipline and responsibility, ensuring the necessary technical and logistical support for ongoing operations—particularly in southern Libya, a region facing growing pressure from displaced populations due to conflicts in neighboring countries.

This meeting is part of the Prime Minister’s ongoing oversight of the national security portfolio, aimed at reinforcing coordination among security and defense institutions, maintaining stability, and ensuring a safe environment for all Libyan citizens.
