Libyan Prime Minister Osama Hamad leads the opening of Darna’s new Sports City, launched after the devastating natural disaster that struck the region. The event coincides with the start of the Arab Mini Football Championship, highlighting the city’s revival.

Recently, Libyan Prime Minister Dr. Osama Hamad attended the opening ceremony of the Darna Sports City, a symbol of the region’s recovery after the catastrophic flooding caused by Storm Daniel. This project, driven by the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund and the Darna Reconstruction Fund, is part of an ambitious plan to revitalize the area, which was severely impacted both economically and socially.

The event, which gathered thousands of citizens along with local and national authorities, also marked the kickoff of the Arab Mini Football Championship, positioning Darna as a new hub for hosting both local and international events.

In his opening speech, Engineer Abul Qasim Haftar, General Manager of the Development and Reconstruction Fund, emphasized that this effort marks a milestone in the city’s recovery. «Darna, which has faced a difficult past, is now rising stronger than ever. This is just the beginning of a series of initiatives aimed at putting the city on the map for international events,» he stated.

The reconstruction of Darna has been a top priority for the Libyan government, as part of a larger effort to restore normalcy to areas affected by the storm and flooding, which devastated infrastructure and displaced thousands of people. The Sports City, beyond its local impact, is seen as a symbol of hope and resilience in a country that has faced numerous challenges in recent years.

This event has drawn international attention, as Libya seeks to reaffirm itself not only in the regional context but also on the global stage as a country in recovery and growth.
