Benghazi meeting with Massad Boulos lays groundwork for enhanced economic and security cooperation
Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, leader of the Libyan National Army (LNA), recently held an official meeting in Benghazi with Massad Boulos, Advisor to former U.S. President Donald Trump on African Affairs. The meeting took place at LNA headquarters and included senior representatives from both delegations.

During the talks, Boulos expressed U.S. appreciation for Haftar’s role in stabilizing Libya, stating that “stability in Libya is essential for the security of North Africa and the Mediterranean region.” He also highlighted America’s interest in exploring new areas of bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic development, industry, and investment.
Haftar, in turn, emphasized the importance of U.S. support in achieving a peaceful political solution in Libya. He welcomed the progress in relations between both parties and underscored the potential for broader strategic collaboration.

The visit signals a mutual willingness to open lines of dialogue and cooperation, though no formal agreements have been announced yet. The move is part of the broader U.S. strategy in Libya, which seeks to engage with key players across the country to foster stability and national reconciliation.
Washington’s approach appears aimed at balancing support among Libya’s political and military stakeholders to encourage a long-term, inclusive solution while promoting future economic opportunities.
