The commander-in-chief of the Libyan National Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, led a high-level meeting in Pakistan’s capital to advance a new stage of strategic cooperation between Libya and Pakistan. The talks were held in the government headquarters in Islamabad and included Libyan Prime Minister Osama Hammad and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The meeting formed part of the official visit by the Libyan delegation to Pakistan and focused on strengthening bilateral relations while accelerating the implementation of previously signed agreements. Both sides emphasized the need to adapt their cooperation to evolving regional and international dynamics, aiming to transform political commitments into concrete projects across several sectors.

During the discussions, Haftar highlighted the importance of building a strong partnership between Libya and Pakistan, particularly in the fields of security and defense. The Libyan military leader stressed that closer cooperation between the armed forces of both countries could play a significant role in strengthening Libya’s institutions and supporting the country’s long-term stability.

The Libyan delegation also included senior government and military officials, among them deputy commander Saddam Haftar and Foreign Minister Abdel-Hadi Al-Haweej. On the Pakistani side, key figures such as Army Chief Asim Munir and Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif were also present.

Economic cooperation was another major focus of the talks. Both delegations explored opportunities to expand collaboration in sectors such as energy, investment, education, and transportation, which were identified as areas with significant potential for mutual growth and development.

A notable outcome of the meeting was the agreement to strengthen diplomatic and consular presence between the two nations. Plans include opening a Pakistani consulate in Benghazi and enhancing Libya’s diplomatic representation in Pakistan. Additionally, joint technical committees will be established to oversee the implementation of agreements and prepare new initiatives for cooperation.

Prime Minister Sharif praised Haftar’s role in Libya’s stabilization efforts and acknowledged his leadership in strengthening the country’s institutions. He also expressed Pakistan’s willingness to broaden its partnership with Libya and deepen political and strategic coordination in the coming years.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and working toward a broader partnership that supports regional stability and economic development. Haftar’s visit to Pakistan is widely seen as an important step in expanding Libya’s international partnerships and strengthening its diplomatic presence on the global stage.
