At least four Palestinian journalists were killed and a fifth injured following an Israeli airstrike on the Baptist Hospital in northern Gaza City. The victims were working in the hospital’s courtyard when Israeli warplanes launched the attack, according to the Wafa news agency.

The deceased worked for the Shams agency and the television channels Palestine Today and Al Arabiya. The targeted hospital is a location frequently visited by journalists and camera crews who arrive daily to document the consequences of Israeli bombings. Witnesses in the area say the attack may have deliberately targeted the group of journalists.

Since the start of the Israeli military offensive against Gaza, more than 220 journalists have died, according to figures from the local government. This situation has raised international alarm about the safety of media professionals in the region.

Israel maintains a total ban on foreign press entry into the Strip, so the reporting work falls exclusively to Palestinian journalists, cameramen, and photographers who, despite constant risk, continue documenting the devastation and ongoing humanitarian emergency.

Reporters Without Borders has labeled Palestine the deadliest place in the world to practice journalism in 2025, highlighting the urgent need for measures to protect media workers in conflict zones.

The Gaza authorities, controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), have denounced that 70 people have been killed and 189 injured in Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours. This raises the death toll even further in a conflict that has lasted over 20 months without interruption.

During this time, Israeli forces have repeatedly bombarded hospitals, clinics, and medical centers, many with barely any resources to care for the wounded. Gaza’s health system, overwhelmed and under constant pressure, faces an unprecedented crisis in its recent history.
