The Government of National Unity (GNU) is looking forward to working with the new Italian government and building relations for the good of both nations, Foreign Minister Najla Al-Manqoush said during a meeting with Italy’s Ambassador Giuseppe Grimaldi on Monday.
A statement by the Foreign Ministry said that talks focused on the developing situation in Libya and the GNU’s efforts to promote stability and peace in the country.
Al-Manqoush confirmed that steps are in place to stabilize the country and prepare the ground for the polls, based on a short-term and clear roadmap that defines commitments towards the electoral process and avoids any scenarios that do not meet the aspirations of the Libyan people, according to the FM media office.
The top Libyan diplomat congratulated the Italian ambassador on his country’s new government, stressing the GNU’s readiness to cooperate with the new administration and build relations based on mutual interests that serve both sides.

For his part, The Italian ambassador expressed his country’s support for maintaining security and stability that leads to national elections in Libya according to a sound constitutional basis, as he reiterated that Libya’s stability is «fundamental and vital» for the entire Mediterranean region.
