El ministerio de Salud de Libia ha ascendido a 3.868 el número de fallecidos en la ciudad libia de Derna, arrasada por las devastadoras inundaciones registradas a mediados de septiembre a causa de la tormenta ‘Daniel’.
La cifra ha sido confirmada por el portavoz del Comité Supremo de Emergencias y Respuesta Rápida del Parlamento electo, Mohamed Eljarh, quien también ha informado sobre la creación de un equipo para encargarse de los cuerpos recuperados y otro más para contar a los enterrados, según el portal de noticias libio Al Wasat.
La Organización Internacional para las Migraciones (OIM) elevó a más de 43.000 los desplazados por las inundaciones, que destruyeron una cuarta parte de Derna después de que las fuertes lluvias provocaran la ruptura de dos presas situadas río arriba.
El país se encuentra dividido en dos administraciones después de que la Cámara de Representantes diera por finalizado el mandato del primer ministro de unidad, Abdul Hamid Dbeibé, por el aplazamiento de las elecciones presidenciales en diciembre de 2021 y nombrara para el cargo a Fazi Bashaga –posteriormente suspendido en el cargo y sustituido por Hamad–, decisión que supuso un varapalo para los esfuerzos para poner fin al conflicto y la inestabilidad que sacude Libia desde la captura y ejecución de Muamar Gadafi en 2011.

The Libyan Ministry of Health has raised the number of deaths to 3,868 in the Libyan city of Derna, devastated by the devastating floods recorded in mid-September due to storm ‘Daniel’.
The figure has been confirmed by the spokesperson for the Supreme Emergency and Rapid Response Committee of the elected Parliament, Mohamed Eljarh, who has also reported on the creation of a team to deal with the recovered bodies and another to count those buried, according to the Libyan news portal Al Wasat.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) put the number displaced by the floods at more than 43,000, which destroyed a quarter of Derna after heavy rains caused two dams located upstream to burst.
The country is divided into two administrations after the House of Representatives ended the mandate of the prime minister of unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibé, due to the postponement of the presidential elections in December 2021 and appointed Fazi Bashaga to the position – -later suspended from office and replaced by Hamad–, a decision that was a blow to efforts to end the conflict and instability that has shaken Libya since the capture and execution of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
