El Mundial 2030 ya está adjudicado… y el Mundial 2034… parece destinado a Arabia Saudí. Tras contentar a Concacaf (2026), África, Europa y Conmebol (2030), la FIFA está destinada, como dijo ayer, a darle el Mundial 2034, por mor de la rotación de sedes, a Asia y/u Oceanía, un escaparate que esconde la verdadera intención de todos: el Mundial 2034 tiene toda la pinta de irse a Arabia Saudí.
Y la potente maquinaria saudí ya ha empezado públicamente -privadamente ya lleva tiempo trabajando en ello- a poner en marcha su maquinaria de cara a organizar el Mundial en solitario, y no con la ayuda de Egipto (África) y Grecia (Europa), de la que se venía hablando. Ya no hacen falta, Saudi irá solo al evento.
el primero que se ha lanzado en esta carrera es el presidente de la Federación Saudí, Yasser Almisehal, que aseguró: «Organizar la Copa en Arabia significaría todo para nosotros. Somos una nación de fútbol, y de eso están hechos los sueños, y para todas las generaciones».
Recordemos que la FIFA abrirá en breve el plazo para presentar candidaturas a este Mundial 2034 sólo para los continentes de Asia y Oceanía, que son las Confederaciones que, por rotación, les tocará este Mundial. Pero todos saben que irá… para Arabia Saudí.
La decisión final sobre este Mundial 2034 sería, en principio, en el tercer o cuarto trimestre de 2024…. aunque la FIFA suele dar sorpresas.
