Khalid Al-Mishri, whosepresidency of the High Council of Stateremainsdisputedfrom rival Mohammed Takala, metonSunday in Tripoliwithseveralindividuals running forthe position of prime minister in a new government.
Thesecandidateshadpreviouslysubmittedtheirapplications and presentedtheirvisionsbeforetheHouse of Representatives, according to a pressstatementby HCS member Abu Al-QasimGzit.
Gzitstatedthattheprocess of screening and verifyingendorsementswouldbegin as of July 20 and continueuntil 24 July, notingthattheendorsementsmust be valid and signedby 10 members of the High Council of State.
He alsopointedoutthatallcandidatesortheirrepresentativeswerepresent at the meeting exceptforonecandidate.
Amongthecandidateswhoattendedthe meeting with Al-Mishri in TripoliwereformerEconomicDevelopmentBoardchairmanFadil Al-Amin, Interior Minister of theparallelgovernmentIssam Abu Zreiba, and candidatesAbdelHakimBaiyou, Abdel Karim Mgeg, Mohamed Al-Mazoughi, Mohamed Al-Muntasser, and Ali Sassi.
Local media outletscitedsourceswhoattendedthe meeting as sayingthat Al-Mishriemphasizedthecandidacyprocessforthepremiershipdoesnotcontradictthe UN mission’sroadmap. Rather, itaims to coordinatewithitwithoutpreemptingorunderminingtheUN’s plan, describingthe meeting as “positive.”
Thesourcesnotedthatthediscussionsweredetailed, and anagreementwasreached to verifytheendorsementsissuedbythe High Council of Stateforthecandidates and forward them to theHouse of Representatives.
